FAMILY PROMISE OF THE CAPITAL REGION AWARDED $30,000 GRANT

ALBANY, N.Y. – March 15, 2018 – Family Promise of the Capital Region (FPCR) is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a grant of $30,000 from the John, Marie and Joseph Whalen Foundation, Inc.  These funds will support the case management services provided to the homeless families served by our organization.

“We are very grateful to the Whalen Foundation for their very generous support, which will directly impact the families entrusted to our care,” said Pat Bender, FPCR Board President.  “The funds will allow us to continue to provide individualized guidance to our guest families for at least a year after they secure their own homes, helping to ensure that their situation remains stable.”

The program’s unique community-based approach allows the families to connect personally with people throughout the Capital Region, growing their network of support and maximizing their opportunities for finding work and affordable housing.  The goal is that families will secure housing and gain financial stability within three to six months, eventually achieving full and sustainable independence.

“The mission of Family Promise of the Capital Region speaks to helping the homeless to achieve sustainable independence.  The good work of FPCR provides a hand-up and not simply a hand-out.  Programs such as that provided by FPCR are the hallmark of what Fr. John P. Whalen envisioned and which the Whalen Foundation strives to help, with a particular emphasis on sustainability,” said Phil Whalen, Chair of the Board of the John, Marie and Joseph Whalen Foundation.
